Juvederm Voluma XC

Juvederm Voluma XC is an injectable dermal filler designed to add volume and definition to the cheeks. Unfortunately, facial thinning and loose skin are typical signs of aging. As a result, facial features like the cheeks lose volume. Thankfully, Allergan, the parent company responsible for Juvederm, developed a new formula designed specifically for the cheeks with excellent results. Like the rest of the Juvederm family, Juvederm Voluma XC contains hyaluronic acid (HA), which occurs naturally in the body. Once injected, Juvederm works to provide immediate plumpness to the cheeks. Patients rely on Juvederm because of its fast-acting and consistent results, and Voluma XC is no exception! After injection, patients can look forward to results that last up to two years.

Your facial appearance is determined by the complex underlying structures of muscles, bones, and underlying fat tissue. As we age, the soft tissue and bone undergo dramatic changes, as does the overlying skin. Consequently, cheeks begin to lose their plump, youthful volume, and the midface region begins to appear flatter. We start to see familiar signs of aging around the face: sunken cheeks, sagging jowls, wrinkles, and fine lines become more evident. [1] To correct these signs of aging without having to resort to surgery or other invasive procedures, patients are increasingly turning to dermal fillers. Strategically placed injections can restore volume and create a subtle lift for a smoother complexion and an alluring, youthful appearance.

It’s not hard to see why dermal fillers are so popular. These alternatives to surgery are less costly, minimally invasive, have little if any recovery time, and offer excellent results. And, they’re fast. Patients can be in and out of their injection session in under an hour, and free to continue their day. Juvederm was introduced in 2006 and has enjoyed increasing popularity ever since. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), over 2.6 million hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable treatments such as Juvederm were performed in 2020. [2]

The principal ingredient of Juvederm is hyaluronic acid (HA), a nonsulfated sugar-based molecule. This occurs naturally in the human body, with most of it occurring in the dermis, where it attracts and binds to water molecules to keep tissues hydrated and healthy. [3] HA is essential in supporting the extracellular matrix, the network of fibers and proteins that provide support for the skin. Juvederm products contain a synthetic form of HA that is designed to be long-lasting, and is in a gel form that has just the right consistency to volumize the specific area of the face. When Juvederm Voluma XC is injected beneath the skin, the HA gel provides volume, while the HA molecules help to reinforce the matrix, allowing better hydration and the production of collagen. [3] Added volume in the cheeks leads to a more youthful, fresh-faced appearance, and can help lift the tissues of the lower face.

Juvederm Voluma XC is a fast way to see real results. Volumizing the cheeks is an effective way to soften evidence of common signs of aging in the entire face. And, Voluma XC is specially formulated with lidocaine, so patients can enjoy a more comfortable injection experience. In addition to these benefits, patients can also look forward to:

  • Increased collagen production and firmer skin
  • Reduced appearance of lines, and wrinkles
  • Improved laxity in the lower face
  • More dynamic contours
  • Boost in self-confidence and esteem
  • Fast treatment
  • Long-term, natural-looking results

Ideal Candidates

Juvederm Voluma XC helps healthy patients ease minimal to moderate aging signs with an inexpensive, stress-free treatment. However, there are a few things to note when considering this dermal filler. Candidates considering injections should:

Since Juvederm Ultra XC is a minimally invasive, injectable treatment, there is little preparation needed before treatment. We only advise patients to:

  • Avoid alcohol at least a day before and a day after treatment.
  • Curb intake of medication such as blood thinners until given further instructions.
  • Stop topical treatments that may irritate the skin, such as retinol or glycolic acid, a week before your session.
  • Notify the office if you develop a sunburn or other skin condition just before treatment. Your appointment will need to be rescheduled until it fully heals.
  • Please come to your appointment with a clean face.

A skilled injector will first disinfect the treatment area. Then, with a delicate needle, they will inject the Juvederm solution at different depths in strategic areas to restore volume to your cheeks. The treatment contains lidocaine, so any discomfort is kept to a minimum. [1] However, you can choose to have a topical anesthetic applied to optimize your comfort further. Your session will be finished within 30-45 minutes, after which you can leave and resume your life without significant interruption.

The quick and convenient nature of Juvederm Voluma XC allows patients to resume their daily activities right after treatment. However, holding off on partaking in high-impact activities for at least 24 hours after treatment is advised. The injection sites may be slightly red and sensitive to the touch. You can attenuate these symptoms by applying an ice pack or taking a Tylenol.

You will see immediate, impressive results after treatment, with optimal results in the days ahead. The Juvederm Voluma XC will take off years of your appearance and restore a youthful, refreshed complexion. Your new results may last up to two years before the body naturally will start to absorb the dermal filler solution. At this point, you can come into the office to get a minor touch-up treatment.

We invite patients to show us their results by tagging us on Instagram and Facebook.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Our patients benefit from numerous facial treatments at their disposal. All of which may be discussed further at your consultation. They include:

Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging solutions on the market today. It involves injecting a safe neurotoxin into the facial muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles. After injection, muscles are unable to contract fully, and wrinkles, fine lines, and creases are smoothed away.

Patients who want to see dramatic, more long-lasting outcomes will see tremendous benefits with a facelift. During surgery, Dr. Bonillas will make adjustments to the facial muscle and tissues. After the underlying tissues are repositioned, skin is carefully redraped, and any loose, excess skin is removed for a natural-looking, long-lasting facial makeover.
