Neuromodulators

Beauty may only be skin deep, but the source of wrinkles runs even deeper. Every time you smile, wink or laugh, the fine muscles in your face contort to convey your emotions. These muscular contractions pull at the skin. Over time, the creases in the skin become more pronounced. Repetitive muscle movements exacerbate wrinkles to the point where you are often unable to relax them.

When the nervous system wants a muscle to contract, it issues a burst of acetylcholine at the neural junction. By disrupting the flow of acetylcholine, neuromodulators control the persistent pull of selected muscles. When tension eases, serenity flourishes. Neuromodulators allow your face to enjoy a placid calm that encompasses the skin and helps add to your signature glow.

Botox

Botox

The most popular neuromodulator, by far, is Botox Cosmetic. Botox has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for use in reducing and erasing fine lines. The serum is so well tolerated and incredibly proven that it has become a state-of-the-art solution to conditions outside the aesthetic realm, as well. Botox is an effective remedy for excessive sweating, an issue called hyperhidrosis. Breakthrough research has even proven that Botox offers much needed alleviation from the pain of chronic migraines.[1]

Xeomin

Xeomin

Another compound in the suite of neuromodulators offered at Scottsdale Plastics is a product called Xeomin. While it works according to the same scientific principles as Botox, Xeomin is formulated using a different sequence of proteins that are non-complexing. Every human body processes accessory proteins differently, so each patient will have a unique relationship with Botox vs. Xeomin. One benefit to Xeomin is that it does not require refrigeration, as Botox does. Patients do not report about the “cold rush” of a Xeomin injection, as they sometimes describe the sensation of a Botox treatment.

The debate between Xeomin and Botox is one that should take place in the presence of Dr. Bonillas. He can weigh the pros and cons of each product to help you make an informed decision about which neuromodulator is best for your physiology. Schedule a consultation at Scottsdale Plastics and get ready to get calm!

Dermal Fillers

While persistent muscular contractions are one cause of facial wrinkles, another is simply the march of time. As skin ages, it loses the support of its underlying structures. We produce less elastin and collagen as we get older. These are the building blocks of healthy skin. Without a proper scaffolding, the surface can collapse.

Gaps emerge between the skin and the fine tissue and muscles beneath it. To fill these gaps, you need an appropriately named dermal filler.

Juvéderm

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally found in the human body. It cradles moisture, allowing our skin to appear radiant and hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is the active ingredient in Juvéderm.[2] In addition to providing a moisturizing finish to your skin, Juvéderm adds volume. When gaps are filled from beneath the skin, it smooths out the lines above them. Think of it like a balloon. When you add air, the wrinkles along the surface disappear, giving way to a fun, festive complexion. That is the Juvéderm advantage.

Juvéderm Voluma XC

The cheeks are the goalposts of the face. They direct the viewer to the vibrant dimensions of your features and raise your profile with youthful exuberance. But when the cheeks become deflated, so does your vitality and vigor. Juvéderm Voluma XC is specially formulated to rejuvenate the mid-face and give you a reason to smile again. Get cheeky with Juvéderm Voluma XC!

Sculptra

Don’t fold under the pressure of the folds on your face. Double down on Sculptra Aesthetic. Sculptra is formulated using poly-L-lactic acid, which provides support and thickness to the skin. The nasolabial folds (the lines that form parentheses beside your mouth and up to your nose) are no match for Sculptra, which can deliver radiant results for up to two years!

Bellafill

To extend the benefits of your dermal filler even further down the calendar, consider the benefits of Bellafill. This revolutionary solution features polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. PMMA structures add volume and support to smile lines and stimulate collagen production. The increase in collagen represents long-lasting facial restoration, amounting to smoothness and stunning results for up to 5 years! Bellafill is even tough enough to tackle acne scars and other facial imperfections.

Preparation and Procedure

Injectables are so tolerable and versatile, you may be ready for your first treatment session immediately following your consultation. A medical professional will cleanse the injection area(s) and apply a topical numbing cream, if necessary.

Each solution is formulated precisely, so the number of units you require will depend on your anatomy and the nature of the product you desire. The duration of most injectable sessions is typically less than 30 minutes, making it the perfect “lunchtime” procedure

Recovery and Results

Since injectables are non-surgical treatments, there is little to no downtime associated with them. You should be ready to resume your normal everyday activities immediately following a session.

You may experience minor redness at the site(s) of injection, but this will subside in a matter of 3-4 hours.

Please do not irritate the treatment area for 24 hours. Avoid scratching and applying pressure to allow the serum to find its footing gradually and effectively. Results should begin to appear within 4-7 days, depending on the solution for which you opted. Our patients have been kind enough to share their glowing reviews, and we are thrilled to continue providing the best aesthetic services to our Scottsdale community.
