Botox is a popular non-surgical treatment used to enhance facial aesthetics by reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It is a nonsurgical option for facial rejuvenation. Not only does it lessen the appearance of facial wrinkles, but the injectable can also prevent these wrinkles from worsening in the future.
If you are dissatisfied with facial wrinkles or other signs of aging, but are not quite ready for plastic surgery, opting for Botox from Dr. Robert Bonillas at Scottsdale Plastics may be the best choice to rejuvenate your facial appearance. Botox is proven to reduce wrinkles like crow’s feet, “eleven” lines, and forehead creases, which results in a more rested and youthful appearance. At Scottsdale Plastics, we take great pride in providing our patients with effective non-surgical rejuvenation options.

Neuromodulators are some of the most popular minimally invasive treatments used to treat wrinkles today. Both men and women use Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Daxxify, and Xeomin to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe lines on the face. When administered correctly, these treatments can turn the clock back on your appearance.
Wrinkles develop from repetitive movements, such as frowning or bunching your eyebrows when you are worried or upset. After repeated frowning, fine lines develop, which can turn into more permanent wrinkles, which appear even when your face is relaxed. If you have deep dynamic wrinkles, you may be seeking treatments if these wrinkles cause your face to always look worried, angry, or tired. Neuromodulators are an effective way to reduce these wrinkles associated with facial expressions. Dr. Bonillas often recommends neuromodulators like Botox as a preventative treatment for facial wrinkles when treatment is begun before the wrinkles form.
Dr. Bonillas can inject neuromodulators into the muscles that are causing the wrinkle using a tiny needle. The neuromodulator relaxes the muscles by disrupting communication with its nerves, which releases tension in the skin and helps smooth creases and lines. With this temporary pause in the communication between the nerves and muscles of the treated areas, patients enjoy smoother and younger-looking skin. (1,2)
Neuromodulators like Botox are designed to reduce lines and wrinkles on the face. Some other benefits of Botox include:
While these procedures are designed to reduce the signs of aging, there is no specific age at which someone may benefit from Botox. As everyone ages differently, wrinkles and other signs of aging may appear in early adulthood, like in the early 20s. Dr. Bonillas considers Botox for patients of a variety of ages. In fact, Dr. Bonillas recommends starting neuromodulator treatments early before the signs of aging are irreversible. Treatments like Botox can help you look and feel your best no matter what your age is.
During your consultation, Dr. Bonillas will provide you with information regarding neuromodulator treatments like Botox, and which may be best suitable for you. All of the injectable treatments are similar in how they are administered, and each has minimal to no preparation and downtime.
A personal consultation is a great time to ask questions! Your consultation is where Dr. Bonillas takes the time to address your concerns and answer your questions. You might find it helpful to write down your questions and bring them to your consultation. Each patient has different concerns and expectations, so your treatment will be tailored to fit your needs.

Neuromodulator injections like Botox require minimal preparation. Dr. Bonillas will provide you with personalized preparation instructions at the time of your personal consultation. Abstaining from blood thinners such as, but not limited to, aspirin, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Excedrin, fish oils, omegas, and vitamin E can reduce swelling and bruising during and after your treatment, so you should adjust your medication regimen according to his recommendations.
Dr. Bonillas will inject the Botox underneath the skin using a tiny needle during a procedure that allows for minimal to no discomfort. He will inject each area until all of the predetermined treatment areas are addressed. Botox treatment sessions typically take about 10 minutes, depending on the number of areas needing treatment.
Following your Botox treatment, you may return to your daily routine with little to no downtime. You may experience some discomfort in the treatment area, but it will soon subside. (2) You will need to abstain from strenuous activities for 24 hours after your treatment, then afterward there will be no restrictions.
Results will start to set in within two to four days, and the full effects of Botox are often seen after two weeks. (1) The effects last about three months on average, however, the longevity of results will depend on your body’s chemistry and its response to the neuromodulator.
Dr. Bonillas may request to see you about two weeks after your initial injections to assess the treatment outcome and make any recommendations for future treatments. Occasionally, he will recommend a touch-up treatment during this visit if you would like to adjust your results.
Dermal fillers are a great addition to a Botox, Jeuveau, Dysport, or Xeomin treatment! At Scottsdale Plastics, Dr. Bonillas offers various soft tissue fillers, such as Juvederm and Bellafill, to further reduce the signs of aging, and enhance the overall treatment by adding youthful volume. Depending on your goals, Dr. Bonillas may offer one of these fillers, such as Juvederm or Bellafill, in addition to Botox.
The result from treatment with both a neuromodulator and a soft tissue filler will rejuvenate you! In addition to Botox, Dr. Bonillas offers three more popular neuromodulator injectables: Jeuveau, Dysport, and Xeomin.
This hyaluronic acid-based soft tissue filler restores volume to the face where it has been lost with aging. Juvederm consists of a smooth gel that is injected into the skin. Results may last for up to twelve months and correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles.
This soft tissue filler is a semi-permanent filler with a longevity of up to 5 years. Bellafill works by stimulating the body to produce its own collagen to fill in within the areas of injection. This phenomenon is known as biostimulation. It helps restore that youthful volume, thereby making you appear younger and healthier!
Jeuveau is a treatment designed to diminish the appearance of glabellar lines (lines between the eyebrows) in adults. Jeuveau has a longevity that is similar to Botox, but it starts working faster, after about 2-3 days. Jeuveau will reduce moderate to severe frown lines and help rejuvenate your appearance.
Dysport is also used for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles in the glabellar region (lines between the eyebrows) in adults. Dysport’s makeup allows it to spread more quickly throughout treatment areas. This makes it more suitable for larger treatment areas. Dysport will alleviate lines and help you look more rejuvenated, but it may not last as long as Botox. The effects will set in sooner than Botox, at the 2-3 day mark.
Xeomin® is another product for the treatment of facial wrinkles in adults. Like the other neurotoxins, Xeomin effects can become visible after about 3-5 days, which is a little sooner than most Botox effects. Xeomin is meant to reduce frown lines and help you look more refreshed.
The cost of your treatment will depend on your desired outcome and whether you combine Botox with other treatments. The cost breakdown will be discussed during your personal consultation.

Botox is FDA-approved for the treatment of lines along the forehead, between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet. The treatment can also be used to reduce hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) of the hands and armpits, migraines, masseter hypertrophy, and muscle spasms.
Botox lasts about 3 months on average, after which you will see your wrinkles gradually return. The wrinkles and lines will be no worse than they were before and a simple maintenance treatment can help you keep your results consistent.
There are a few differences between Botox and Dysport, but both are neuromodulators used to treat similar conditions. Primarily, Dysport has been shown to have a faster onset of action, within two days, while Botox has an onset of action of about four to five days. On the other hand, Botox results often last a bit longer than Dysport results. Dysport is a smaller-sized molecule, therefore it tends to migrate further than Botox, which is beneficial for the treatment of areas such as the forehead and crow’s feet.
Dysport often takes about two to three months to wear off, but longevity is different for each individual.
The best treatment for you will really depend on you and your body’s chemical makeup. Some patients find Botox is more effective and longer-lasting, whereas others find Jeuveau works best for them. A personal consultation will help determine which neuromodulator is best for you!
